180-Degree Change

Reynaldo Gutierrez, who goes by Rey, graduated last year from Holbrook Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Indian School. That may not sound like an out-of-the-ordinary accomplishment. However, near the end of Rey's junior year, graduating from Holbrook didn't appear to be an option.

Holbrook SDA Indian School is a grade school and high school (grades 1-12) mainly for Native Americans. It's located a few miles away from the vast Navajo reservation in Arizona.

Rey first came to Holbrook to attend fourth grade. As he continued attending Holbrook year after year, Rey didn't seem to be all that interested in religion. Then, during Rey's junior year, while his grades dropped lower and lower, he broke some of the school's rules.

Orange & Maroon Effect Friday April 20th

Virginia Tech family members across the country have united to declare this Friday, April 20th, an “Orange and Maroon Effect” day to honor those killed in the tragic events on campus Monday, and to show support for Virginia Tech students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni, and friends. “Orange and Maroon Effect” was born several years ago as an invitation to Tech fans to wear orange and maroon to Virginia Tech athletics events. We invite everyone from all over the country to be a part of the Virginia Tech family this Friday, to wear orange and maroon to support the families of those who were lost, and to support the school and community we all love so much.

Sacrifice

The Bridge
Click here to watch the video

This video shows true sacrifice in its purest form. It is similar to the sacrifice that God endured, although not at all close to the magnitude. If you pay close attention to the passengers you can see that they didn’t know at all what was going on. Kind of like how most people live life without knowing what true sacrifice mean. People are ignorant of the ultimate sacrifice that God endured for us to even be alive, let alone have the freedom to choose to sin. Yet they live and do not know Him. Some of us are touched by this true sacrifice. This is why there are people who work hard to bring those souls that do not know about Christ, the good news of His sacrifice. Not only to show Christ’s lessons and enduring love but to also provide to them the opportunity to live in eternity with Christ. We also see here a child knowing the importance of saving a life by giving up his own. Something the Lord asks us to do, for in it there is true love. Because what is love without sacrifice?
Our Goal: To not let the true sacrifice pass in vain in the people we know and encounter in out lives.

Cell Phone for Soldiers

Here is more inspiration for you all! God Bless those that do not doubt the work of the Lord when self is taken out from the picture. Amen!

The Cell Phones for Soldiers program was started in April of 2004 by 13-year-old Brittany Bergquist and her 12-year-old brother Robbie of Norwell, Massachusetts.
After hearing a news report about a local soldier who ran up a massive phone bill calling home from Iraq, they decided they wanted to do something to help. Brittany and Robbie donated their piggy bank money, collected snack money from their friends at school, and with $21.00, they went to the bank to open an account. The South Shore Savings Bank of Hanover, Massachusetts donated $500.00 to help them get started.
Their goal is to help our soldiers serving overseas call home. They hope to provide as many soldiers as possible with prepaid calling cards for now with an ultimate goal of providing banks of satellite phones, video phones and VOIP communications. Through generous donations and the recycling of used cell phones from drop-off sites across the country, they have already distributed thousands of calling cards to soldiers in Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Many times we forget about those that are in war. They have families and friends back home that miss them and hardly get a word. Also making a connection could mean the world to people that are in a situation were death is all around. Lets not forget our troops!

"Dear Brittany and Robbie, My name is Spc. Jennifer LaRoche, originally from New York City. I am currrently deployed with the 1st Cavalry Division in Baghdad, Iraq. I'm just writing to thank you on behalf of all the troops that you are helping out here. It's a great thing that you two are doing and I'm not sure if you realize what a tremendous difference you're making in these soldiers lives. It's a really good thing to see kids take such an active role in helping those of us that are deployed. Rather than (like some adults) who choose to point fingers at us (their own) , like we're the bad guys. You both deserve much recognition .. thank you so very much. I continue to pray for you both for having such good hearts. God bless and take care. J. L"

Now what can we do to help?
One you can do is Pray – then Donate!

Passion of Champions

“Three Florida underclassmen bypassed the N.B.A. draft and put millions of dollars on hold so they might get a chance to play one college basketball game.” – NY Times

For most of us that caught the NCAA Championship last night on TV, had the opportunity to experience a little history in the making. First of all Florida is one of only 7 teams to ever win 2 back to back championships. Second they are the only team to ever win 2 championships with the same starting squad. And that is were I will draw the attention to. You see 3 players of the starting squad on the Florida team put on hold the chance to play in the NBA and undoubtedly earn millions of dollars right off the bat, but for what? As you can see above, all that was held back for another chance to play with their team.

“Joakim Noah, Al Horford and Corey Brewer, all of whom could have left Florida and been first-round draft choices last spring, will get what they came back for — a chance to win a second consecutive national championship.” – NY Times

And that is exactly what they got. Their passion for the game, the love for their team and the sacrifice they endured to once again experience the thrill together, surpassed everything that was being offered to them.
Why is this important us?
If this same passion love and sacrifice, if used in our lives to achieve our goals and aspirations, we shall be able to achieve anything our minds are set to do. You see these players also had something called faith in their team. After all why would they ever give something up as huge as a contract with the NBA if it wasn’t driven by a sort of certainty. My question is - What drives you? What is the ultimate goal you have set for yourself? Is passion, love and faith part of your life? And ultimately and most importantly, do YOU have passion, love and faith for the work you do for the Lord?

You see, we have our reward waiting for us, which is far more than millions of dollars and an NBA contract. But first we have to win and become champions above sin and achieve the work set for us to do, which is to spread the good news all around the world. Only as a team we would be able to do this and only with a kind of passion and love which was displayed at the NCAA championships can we achieve all this.
